Croatia Sailing Multisport

Sail the emerald waters of the Adriatic Sea and explore the Dalmatian Coast by biking, hiking, canyoning and rock climbing. Explore Croatia’s fascinating culture in the seaside cities of Split and Old Dubrovnik.

Croatia is a simply gorgeous country in Central/Southern Europe, bordered by Hungary, Bosnia, Serbia, and Slovenia. Its stable political environment and affordability are driving the huge surge in popularity for this wonderful destination.

On our tour, we’ll combine athletic endeavors, cultural exploration, relaxation, and great eating! We’ll discover Croatia’s fascinating culture and explore the extraordinary World Heritage site city of Old Dubrovnik. Experience the gorgeous coast of Dalmatia by sailing, hiking, biking, canyoning, and rock climbing.

Cultural Note

Croatia is a Slavic country and many find the place names (and the whole language) somewhat challenging, to say the least. You won’t need to speak any Croatian on this trip. Even better, you won’t need to know – or even spell – any of these place names!

English is fine, and if you speak other European languages, you may have the chance to use them, too.

Adventures With Friends certainly encourages guests to learn and partake of the local culture. Please call us to discuss any special interests or concerns you may have. We want to make this your best trip yet!

Day 1 (Friday).  Arrive in Split (Arrival)

Welcome to stunning Croatia! You’ll fly into the city of Split and after clearing customs; your tour representative will greet you at the Split airport for the transfer to the Villa Zarko Hotel.

This evening your tour leader will host a welcome dinner and orientation to your upcoming adventure – you’ll meet your fellow adventurers and prepare for a fun and action-filled week. After dinner, enjoy a taste of the vibrant nightlife with a drink in one of the many café-bars on the Riva (seaside promenade) – the place to see and be seen in the city! (D)
Airport transfer (15 minutes)

Day 2 (Saturday).  Brac Island – Mountain biking

After a leisurely morning, you leave your hotel accommodations and arrive at our sailing vessel, the MS/ Naranca, a 98 ft sailing vessel where you are greeted by the crew with a welcome drink. Your lunch time departure will take you to the beautiful island of Brac, an island of breathtaking landscapes, peaceful beaches and crystal clear water.

During the 1.5 hour long cruise feel free to explore the sunbathing decks. Brac is the largest island in Dalmatia and the third largest island in the Adriatic.  It is famous for its marble and white stone which was used to build the US White House in Washington DC.

After a brief bike orientation, we begin our adventure via pedal power, first heading uphill and alternating between paved and gravel roads to the Church of St. Jure (St. George), a Romanesque-Gothic structure built in 1311. You’ll be challenged by a few hills on our journey but are rewarded with an exhilarating downhill ride as you head down to the village of Skrip, the oldest settlement on the island, where numerous monuments attest to the presence of Illyrians, Romans and later Croatian settlers.

We continue along a gravel road down to the coast and wind our way along to Lovrecina, a beautiful inlet with a long sandy beach, different from all the other pebble beaches on Brac.  Here we break for a swim and spend some time relaxing. This evening, you are free to explore the island and all of its pleasures.

Dinner is on your own, so take time to experience what the villages of Postira or Supertar have to offer and do some exploring of your own.  Overnight onboard you might take advantage of the bar serving a full range of domestic and international drinks and converse with your fellow adventurers.  (B, L)
Cruising to Brac (1.5 hours)

Mountain biking (25 miles, some hills, some gravel, some paved roads)

Day 3 (Sunday).  Hvar Island – Sailing, Deep Water Soloing

This morning we sail to the island of Hvar, and the old stone village of Svetla Nedjelja.  Challenge yourself with deep-water soloing in the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic.  Deep-water soloing is a unique and safe rock climbing experience on a rock face overhanging the water.

Instead of rappelling down, your trained guides will give you the option of completing your experience with a plunge into the deep water below you – definitely an adrenaline rush.

Later this afternoon, we all sail on to the town of Hvar to enjoy its unique cultural and historical heritage.  Hvar during the 13th and 18th centuries was an important naval base with a strong fortress above and encircling walls and a protected port.

The fortress and walls still stand today. Hvar is a deservedly popular destination with a centuries-old tradition of welcoming travelers. This evening, spend some time exploring the town of Hvar.  (B, L)

Cruise to Pakleni Islands (2 hours)

Deep water soloing/rock climbing (3 hours)

Cruise to Hvar (1 hour)

Day 4 (Monday).  Korcula Island

After breakfast, we depart for Korcula Island with a stop en route for swimming and sea kayaking along the coast.

Lunch is on deck as we float along the azure blue Adriatic before the late afternoon arrival in Korcula, the greenest of the Adriatic islands.  The island itself is rich in art and culture, and has an abundance of secluded bays and breathtaking scenery.  The Greeks originally named it Korkyra Melaina or “Black Corfu” for its dark, densely wooded appearance and it was a favorite Greek holiday spot over 2,000 years ago.

The motor yacht will stop in the port of Racisce where you can choose to unload your bicycle and cycle the rest of the way to the island’s main town of Korcula (11 miles/14km) or continue by boat.  Later in the afternoon, explore Korcula, a wonderful example of a medieval Dalmatian city with its protective wall, round defensive towers, and clusters of red-roofed houses.

Korcula is the reputed birthplace of the famous explorer Marco Polo – and the house where he was born is open to visitors.  This evening, enjoy a picturesque local beach and restaurant within the walls of the city, overlooking the sea. (B, L)
Cruise to Korcula (3 hours)

Sea kayaking (3 hours)

Day 5 (Tuesday). Dubrovnik – Abseiling/Rappelling and city tour

Early morning departure to the deservedly-famous and picture-perfect medieval city of Dubrovnik, a treasure trove of cultural and historical monuments. This historically-vital city of 40,000 has been an important seaport since the Middle Ages.

Each corner of the city is a unique experience, so be sure to explore all that Dubrovnik has to offer.  The city has been immaculately restored and many of its buildings are under special protection as part of a World Cultural Heritage site.

Today we use the magnificent two-mile stone walls that surround the city to make a dramatic entrance by rappelling down the walls to the main city street, the popular Stradun!

Next, we take a walking tour along on the walls of the old city with spectacular views of the town and surrounding islands. You can then visit the cathedral, theatre, and enjoy the glorious city itself. Evening is on your own to explore the city. Overnight on board in Dubrovnik’s harbor. (B, L)
Cruise to Dubrovnik (3.5 hours)

Abseiling/rappelling (2 hours)

City tour (3 hours)

Day 6 (Wednesday).  Mljet

After a relaxed late morning departure, we stop for swimming, snorkeling and sea kayaking on the island of Lopud, the most beautiful among the Elaphiti Islands. We anchor in Sunj cove whose sandy beach is well known and considered the most attractive in the area. Lunch will be served on board.

We then sail on to Pomena on the Island on Mljet, arriving in the late afternoon. Pomena was once merely a small pier for fishing boats from nearby Govedari – today Pomena is the tourist centre of the island of Mljet and boasts a 54 square kilometer (21 square miles) National Park.

The northwestern part of the island of Mljet is a National Park and includes an inland sea and a “mini island” where an inland sea hosts a small island.

Ancient Greeks called the island “Melita” which means “honey” but over the years evolved to become the Slavic name, Mljet.  Mljet can be explored by bicycle, on foot, or by kayak. (B, L)

Cruise to Mljet (4 hours)

Snorkeling and sea kayaking (3 hours)

Optional biking or walking in Mljet

Day 7 (Thursday). Omis – Cetina Canyoning

While you’re still asleep, we boat to Omis and you’ll wake to views of the picturesque town surrounded by steep rocky mountain cliffs. Omis is located where the emerald-green Cetina River meets the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic Sea. After lunch on board, experience the upper secret sections of the Cetina Canyon through the new adventure sport of canyoning.

Canyoning combines hiking, climbing, rappelling and swimming and allows us to explore the canyon’s waterfalls, rapids and subterranean tunnels in ways never before possible. It also involves some rock scrambling and short climbs on steel ladders.

Everyone is provided with wetsuits, helmet and life jackets and our guides have years of canyoning experience. Water shoes or footwear with good traction when wet are required. Biking gloves are also recommended for additional protection. The challenge and thrill means that for many guests, canyoning is the highlight of the tour.

This evening, we celebrate our adventure and success at the Radmanove Mlinice, a local open air restaurant specializing in traditional Croatian cuisine. (Dinner is included.) After our meal, feel invited to spend the evening exploring the wondrous town. (B,L,D).
Cruise to Omis (4 hours.)

Canyoning – four hours of hiking, climbing, swimming, rock scrambling and rappelling. Water shoes or footwear with good traction when wet are required. Biking gloves are also recommended for additional protection. Please contact us with questions.

Drive to canyoning start (30 minutes)

Day 8 (Friday).  Trogir and Split

This morning, we have an early sail on our journey to Trogir, stopping en-route in Split for a guided tour of this ancient city.  In Split, we experience Diocletian’s Palace with its magnificent cathedral, bell tower, and hulking Golden Gate entrance to the old city.

We’ll learn about the history, architecture, and local myths and legends. After our tour, we have free time to shop in the market, stroll under palms of the Riva or just relax at a local cafe.

After lunch, we sail on to the ancient city of Trogir with a 2,300 year tradition influenced by the Greeks, Romans and Venetian. On the way, we’ll have a stop en-route on the island of Ciovo for a last swim in the crystal clear Adriatic.

Free time this afternoon to relax, catch up on last minute shopping and absorb the sights and sounds of this wonderful city one last time. As our adventure starts to wind down, you’ll also have the chance to spend some time with your fellow Adventurers – maybe even start planning your next trip!

Tonight, we’ll enjoy a scrumptious farewell dinner under the warm, summer night sky at one of the local establishments. (B,L,D)
